PBTS Returns to the Stage!

The show must go on! This well-known theatre adage has never been more appropriate than now as we head into month 11 of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has shuttered theatres across the globe. We too, halted performances in mid-March, but our work never truly stopped because we knew that the show must go on.

While our theatres were dark, we reimagined new experiences for our patrons and students, including virtual education initiatives like our New Voices program, and streaming events. PBTS staff spent the Summer and Fall preparing our building to safely reopen – doing everything possible to ensure the safety and health of our patrons, volunteers, students and staff. In November we decided that our community needed theatre now more than ever. We immediately went into production to produce a streamed version of the Tony Award winning hit, Once On This Island, in an effort to bring a PBTS quality show to you without having to leave the safety and comfort of your home. Players by the Sea is thrilled to announce our first production since March, when our doors were closed to the public due to Covid-19.

Streaming February 13, 2021 at 8pm $35 for Streaming Link $45 for VIP, which includes a swag bag delivered to your door!

Book by Lynn Ahrens

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Flaherty

Directed by Jereme Raickett and Kelsey Tippins

ABOUT THE SHOW: Once On This Island takes place in the French Antilles in the Caribbean. In brief, it’s a coming-of-age tale of Ti Moune, a peasant girl from a poor village, her love interest Daniel, a wealthy light-skinned boy, the inherent struggles of a love between different classes, and the power of destiny vs. freewill. The gods of the Earth, water, love, and death have their hands in the story, and in the end, Ti Moune must make the ultimate choice to choose her love or her life.

This event is something new for PBTS and will be streamed for the safety of our patrons, actors, volunteers, and staff, so you can watch it wherever you like. Family and friends near and far can share in the experience with you!

We understand that not everyone will be willing or able to return to the theater anytime soon, so we plan to continue to offer more streaming events in 2021 to provide a way for our patrons to safely enjoy theatre once again.
