Children's Yearlong Classes

Acting Labs

Yearlong Acting Program - 5th through 12th

Players by the Sea School of the Arts offers a safe and intimate environment where students can hone their skills, and "practice" their craft through 2 hour acting labs throughout the year. Labs utilize improvisational techniques allowing the actor to engage his creativity, develop his listening and focus skills, and spontaneously use his intuition to make choices in the moment. All of the activities engaged in class promote confidence, leadership and team work.

All acting labs incorporate: theater vocabulary with an emphasis on blocking; working with music through movement and pantomime developing rhythm, balance, and control of ones acting instrument; projection and diction exercises; sensory exercises; endowing an object; techniques to prepare the actor for the requirements of auditioning. Working with scripted material, monologue and scene analysis occurs throughout the year.

Students have the opportunity to showcase their growth first semester through a “Fly on the Wall” showcase that may incorporate improvisation, pantomime and monologues. During the second semester, yearlong students are part of our Main Stage production that requires additional rehearsal on the weekends for a 6 week period. School of the Arts main stage production is slated for the beginning of February.

SPOTLIGHT on YOU!

Yearlong Acting Program ~ 1st through 4th graders

Spotlight classes stimulate creativity of a child in a group setting. Through creative dramatics our youngest students learn basic acting terminology, blocking and theater games that develop imagination, intuition, and self-confidence.

First semester we focus on body awareness and self-control getting students to use their whole instrument to express themselves. Classes incorporate music with dancing and singing which develops rhythm and movement skills, preparing young brains for learning and helps young children express their emotions.

Using imaginative play, storytelling skills are honed as they recreate characters, settings, and elements of a story in a fun and nurturing environment. Each semester ends with a presentation in our Grace Darling Studio Theater.  Spotlight classes prepare the student for Acting Labs.  Meet & greet required!
