Green Room, a new musical written by local actor/playwright David Sacks, includes 20 original songs composed by Gene Nordan and David Sacks and arranged by Aaron Marshall.
If ever there was a show within a show, Green Room is it! Set in the 1960's in the mid-west, from auditions, to rehearsal and finally to opening night. Green Room tells the story of the creation of a show from the ground up along with all the people who live together, work together, learn together and love together (some more than others!) Green Room takes place at The Harrison Theater, owned and operated by one time stage and screen sensation, Syl Harrison. Desperate to find a hit show to take to Broadway, Syl attempts to put a once talented, but now blacklisted leading man, an alcoholic director who despises actors, and a cadre of unknown performers together in order to produce On the Road to Riches. Meanwhile, backstage love triangles abound, egos flare, which leads to a last minute change in directors, which leads to a climactic finish where the boy almost gets the girl! In spite of themselves, On the Road to Riches is a hit, but not without some unexpected twists, where love wins out. Green Room is a show for all those who love theater, whether they are behind the curtain out in the house.
Director Lee Hamby and Musical Director Arron Marshall have assembled some of Jacksonville's most talented actors to bring this hilarious comedy to life.
